How Staying Hydrated Can Help Prevent Dry Skin In the Winter

Depending on where you are in the world, you may experience different seasons and changes in the weather. The weather can have an effect on various things including your skin. One of the most important things to know is to stay hydrated, not only during the summer time but year-round. We often stress about how crucial it is to drink enough water during the warmer months and forget about how dehydration in the cooler months affects us as well.

While, drinking water is not a cure for dry skin, it does play a part in maintaining healthy, hydrated skin. When the temperature and humidity drops in the winter, the skin retains less moisture and dries out quicker than the warmer months. Not only does your water intake matter but the tempature of the water you use for showering and bathing does too.

Taking hot long showers can also contribute to dry skin.

How To Maintain Hydrated Skin in the Winter:

  • Drink at least a gallon of water daily

  • Take shorter showers

  • Don't shower or bathe in hot water

  • Exfoliate less frequently

  • Apply thinner products first, then the thicker products

  • Moisturize your skin with a body butter while your skin is still damp

Being aware of how the seasons can affect your body is important. Understanding this will make you knowledgeable of your skin and its patterns, what to do, and how to take care of your skin during a certain time of the year.
